The Tyrant Wide Boy was designed to accommodate those guys and gals looking for a shorter board to perform in the surf, providing plenty of buoyancy and stability. As it turns out this SUP design has also proven very popular with paddlers who are new to using a SUP in the surf, and also those of us who are perhaps not as confident with our balance as others, but still wanting the thrill of riding waves.
The board has a wide, flat deck providing plenty of stability while the tight swallow tail allows it to turn with ease.
The perfect choice for people over 80kg who are looking to get into SUP surfing, or for anyone wanting the shorter length suitable for wave riding, combined with extra width for stability and buoyancy.
Bamboo deck, built in carry handle, deck pad and three fins are all included. This thruster setup provides the perfect combination of tracking and manoeuvrability, allowing you to easily include or remove the two small fins to suit your specific requirement on the day.
Review of 10 ft Wide Boy SUP by Geoffery Farrell:
This is one of the most multi-purpose SUPs I have ever encountered. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced paddler you will get enjoyment out of this board. Whether you want a board for flat water, surf, open water, yoga or general family use, this board will suit your needs.
It is called the Wide Boy because of its generous width from the centre of the board all the way to the nose. With the width of 32’’ consistent from the centre of the SUP towards the nose it gives you immense stability for things like yoga, having a passenger (dog/kid) and flat water paddling. For surfing, the extended width at the front allows you to step forwards on the board to accelerate onto a wave without losing stability. The board starts to thin out from the centre to the swallow tail of the board which allows you to turn/pivot or brake very fast once you are in your surfing stance. Coupled with the board’s rocker, this board is incredibly manoeuvrable in the surf with out losing stability due to the wide nature of the board.
This board really is the jack of all trades, and if that isn’t appealing enough, the light weight nature of the board surely will be. The 10’ Wide boy weighs in at an impressive 8.9 kgs, perfect for anyone to be able to put on a roof rack after a big paddle. This great board currently comes with a full carbon fibre adjustable paddle, a heavy-duty bag, leg rope and tri fin set up! What more could you ask for?
Please note, Wood and Bamboo veneer design boards now come with beautifully natural Cork Deck Pads
EPS core without stringers. Both top and bottom deck have 2 layers glassfiber cloth with epoxy resin and 1 layer of bamboo veneer (the bamboo veneer on the bottom deck is not visible, as it is painted over).
Without the wooden stringer the board is lighter while the bamboo veneer reinforcement both the top and bottom deck renders it stronger than most boards that do contain stringers.
The fin plugs and handles have PVC reinforcement for extra strength.
